march 31st

oodles and scads of you wished me a happy birthday yesterday, 31 march... cheers to you one and all! in celebration, i want to share a wee sneaky inside scoop of some recent excitement these past two weeks:

monday was my last day on set of code of honor, the new steven seagal feature. the director maestro michael winnick honored me. after i was wrapped, we exchanged gratitudes and handshakes and smiles and sincerities. as i was leaving to catch transport, he found me again, clasped my hand once more and said something that is worth more to me than all the fame and money in the world. then he turned and caught up to the production team moving on to the next shot. i cherish both what he said and the fact that he returned to me to say it. cheers to you, maestro winnick!

last week, i was booked twice (in two separate roles) in an international industrial/media spot for otterbox, the famous device protectors. initially, i was booked on one, but after the fitting in person, they called and requested me again for another day, another role. i was quite honored already to be working with the creative teams of saint cloud productions, but image the flattery at their invitation to perform again on the same campaign... cheers to otterbox, jacobson/rost, and saint cloud for a smashing production and invitation! it was my delight to work at last with maestro cole webley.

and certainly not least of all, two weeks ago, i auditioned at jeff johnson’s agency for the new rob reiner project, being charlie. a week ago, i was invited by the great maestro reiner to audition for him in person... i nigh shat myself. at the callback, he asked me to read for a contrasting part. i’ll never forget how he reacted to me: ‘twas a dream come true. he said an elevating, complimentary string of words and right in front of me told the casting director to book me! then he said he was going to put me in some other scenes “to establish my character.” i saw the unofficial day out of days report on monday, and he was telling the truth! i cannot say anymore for now, but stay tuned...

THE GRANDE MAESTRO REINER reacted to me like that?!? it’s my very own cinderella story! after being received in such a manner by someone like him, i wouldn’t dream of any business other than show business for the rest of my days. maestro reiner, i am beyond honored at your reactions to me, and i am thrilled at the chance to work with you and yours.. cheers to you!

yes, it has been a very happy birthday these last couple of weeks, thanks to you!

coven shoot

some mighty fine images are trickling in from last week's photo shoot. i'm really eating up these costumed and made-up shoots these days! it's a new way for me to tell stories, and i love a good story! i assembled my own wardrobe based on the stock images the producer sent. we shot near the great saltair. the weather was just as fine and picturesque as the models, and we had such beautiful brilliance on both sides of the cameras.

when i first applied to the shoot, i wrote that i was excited about a coven shoot because i love vampire stories. the producer eli perez responded that he thought vampires might be a great theme for a future shoot, but this one was chic witches. i learned that coven is used for multiple mystic groups and not just in the one context where i've encountered it: vampire films. i love the sensation of my mind opening.

website now live

Thanks! I mean it. Visitors, contributors, photographers, my teachers and guides... without you, every one of you, I wouldn't have been able to launch my new site today. I hope you enjoy it even half as much as I do (I'm kinda geekin' out on it... yup, pretty excited here)!

happy apostrophe!

If you are not familiar with the line Bob Haskins delivers in Hook, take a mere 20 seconds to click on this video and watch him with Dustin Hoffman:

My friend Robin and I were celebrating Epiphany yestereve and recalled this scene with much appropriate delight. Now we wish each other a very "Happy Apostrophe!" during our Epiphany celebrations.

As I grew up, my dad's mom shared her beautiful faith and cultural traditions with me. At the time I did not know it, but the Russian Orthodox Christmas coincides with Epiphany, the celebration of the last of 12 days of Christmas and the moment when the magi found and worshipped the newborn Jesus of Nazareth. This year, I found an infinity of fulfillment in my celebration of the 12 days of Christmas (which occur post December 25th) and the holiday season ending today, much more than I have in the last several years of dodging the systematized, commercialized wallet-raping from well before Thanksgiving through Boxing Day.

A new friend of mine named Lisa surprised me with this living wreath of considerable size. I had met her only just, but she came to my house and put the finishing touches on it as we found its just-so place in my sitting room. The life is almost gone from it now, but it has been a faithful companion this holiday season, bringing me many tears of joy and moments of beautiful reverence. I especially love its mortality. Who knew? A living wreath. I had always wanted real holly berries in a wreath, and I got them along with a grape vine core, evergreen boughs, pinecone ornaments, a giant bow... all gathered, collected and prepared by Lisa.

Many of you have given me such stories this season and in past years... thank you, my friends! This season was indeed magical and healing and full of wonder. Cheers to each of you who is responsible for its festivities and its wonders!
